So I was in Seattle for 5 days last week during my Spring Break. It was a perfect trip. Like, perfettissimo. Everything went according to plan - the weather was surprisingly lovely and non-rainy, public transport turned out to be a piece of cake (after you live in LA you never, ever take this for granted), our hostel was located right in the middle of downtown, the best area, and the city itself was better than I'd hoped. Compact, elegant, eccentric and modern. And bursting with quality eating.
One of the best things we did out of the bajillion things we did was see a laser show at the science center called "Laser Daft Punk." It was awesome to the point of orgasmic. Lying on the planetarium floor for an hour, staring up at the ceiling, a hundred beams of colored light framing a gaping maw, a bottomless orifice, descending on me to the sounds of Daft Punk... all I could think was that I wanted it to devour me. Afterwards we ran out delirious and caught the last bus of the night back home.
When I got back to LA, I took my first driving lesson, which took the form of me driving around Bel-Air (oh thank god for quiet, wealthy, clean Bel-Air roads) for an hour and then down Sunset Blvd and back to UCLA. It all went freakishly well and I didn't have a single accident and only got honked once. Can you believe that? Me? In traffic? LA traffic? I was quite flabbergasted at my own bravery the whole time, but my instructor didn't seem too surprised. He turned out to be a movie buff so we spent the whole lesson discussing the finer points of Inglourious Basterds, Memento and Kevin Spacey, interrupted occasionally by him reminding me to check my rear view mirror. A very surreal experience in all.
Lol at the sealion showing you some attitude. I think its beard needs a trim.
ReplyDeleteSeattle looks really niceee.
Your Daft Punk experience reminds me of our Lie-on-mattresses-in-Night days, but um better. They should have a Laser Muse show! Yes, Des, I see your head nodding.
JEALOUS.

ReplyDeleteshit i wanna see that Daft Pank lazer show! i love them! and FANTAGRAPHICS!
nice jacket too. all the best with driving :)
HM: How was Scotland? Barcelona? Everything???
ReplyDeleteWP: Oh man, Laser Muse would've been perfect. When I wasn't gaping transfixedly at all the pretty colors, I was thinking about that too. They have Laser Pink Floyd, Laser Bob Marley and Laser Beatles... but obviously DP wins.
More suggestions: Laser Radiohead. Laser MGMT. Laser... Arcade Fire?
Rachel: THAT is the business that we should set up in Singapore. Designing Laser Shows. PLEASE.
