Great Expectations

The timing of BBC One producing a series of Dickens' 'Great Expectations' in December 2011 is quite apt (oh, 2012 is a year of Great Expectations!). Hui Min and I watched all three episodes within two days and it was a good adaptation of the novel! I wish this had been produced when we were studying it because it makes clear nearly every single symbol/imagery/metaphor that Dickens wanted to convey through the many relationships in London and the marshes (though Biddy doesn't make an appearance in this version).

The cinematography is absolutely breath-taking and the casting is nearly quite perfect (though one might think Miss Havisham is a bit too young but my god she's so crazy and creepy). And Pip is very, very hot; perhaps a bit too beautiful and more beautiful than Estella. As a Burberry model, Douglas Booth just makes everything he wears look like it's from Burberry.
