This is what war films are made of

So I watched this 1966 film this evening for history class- we've been studying about nationalist movements across Africa and the Middle East and my tutor decided to screen this as an after school event. I was expecting about 10 people (at the very least) to be at the venue but low and behold, only four people (including me) out of about 20 people turned up. Pity because they did miss out on a pretty good movie! The FIRST thing I noticed was the opening music- it was also used in Inglorious Basterds! Or rather Quentin Tarantino used it for Inglorious Basterds- the score was originally composed for this film (hence its title 'ALGERI: 1 NOVEMBRE 1954'). And it was entirely in French. Directed by an Italian. A truly European film- 60s style.
