Food (and Stanley Tucci)

It's the night before the Oscars and I'm going to talk about food. I know! Uncharacteristic. But there is a logical, if not somewhat circuitous, explanation: wanting to be able to predict Best Actress with more conviction during the big show tomorrow, I decided to take a break from studying (ha, ha) for finals and watch Julie & Julia, so as to evaluate Meryl Streep's nominated performance as Julia Child. The movie was alright; I do love Amy Adams but the Julie story was pretty lame; the best part of the whole movie was Stanley Tucci who has just shot way up on the List of People I Like.

(Stanley Tucci is an awesome man. Did you hear about that fiasco on The View? He was on the show last year to promote The Lovely Bones and Elisabeth Hasselbeck asked him what his wife thought of the movie... blithely ignorant of the fact that his wife had just died of cancer in May. Ouch? Knowing Stanley Tucci, though, he must have handled it with grace and aplomb.)

Anyway watching image after image of perfectly roasted duck and beef brisket, people stuffing their faces with pies, people licking chocolate-sauced-coated spoons and bowls, etc, addled my brain a little. Suddenly I'm feeling the tiniest whisper of an inclination to actually get my hands dirty and cook something.

Of course that's not going to happen anytime soon, especially with these insane UCLA dining halls churning out everything under the culinary sun into my salivating jaws. (Because whatever Harris says eating is the best thing a girl can do with her mouth.) For those of you without such luxury, though, here are some pictures from Smitten Kitchen, the best food blog of all (besides This is Why You're Fat). Right now I'd sell my soul for one of these rice krispies. Oh god,
I can't stop clicking the next page button.

And look at these soft mini pretzels. Just waiting to be drizzled in caramel sauce. I haven't been whipped into such a gastronomical fantasy since we did that play about the melidrop.

Oh, it's too much. Kill me now.

  1. Julie and Julia was quite a nice feel-good movie! Stanley Tucci is such an amazing and versatile actor throughout the whole movie I just wanted to hug him for being such a supportive and loving husband. Meryl Streep really did become Julia Child though haha
