7 Shots from Chinatown

My Chinatown dvd just arrived from ebay. You always hear about how gritty and dark this neo-noir is, the perfect way the screenplay unfolds the mystery piece by piece, the performances of Jack Nicholson, Faye Dunaway and John Huston. But the first thing I think of when I think of Chinatown is its supreme visual beauty. Fills Los Angeles with a profound richness and elegance and that little touch of the surreal... a boy riding a horse in a dry riverbed, a man contemplating his fate as he gazes out at the ocean... which, of course, makes the essential rottenness at its core that much more potent.
Look at it. Gorgeous. I really love this movie.
