1. Weather is as fickle as Archie. I could be in sunnies and a breezy top in the day only to be wrapped in a bomber jackets getting bitchslapped by the wind. But like Archie (and assuming I'm Betty), it is extremely attractive and I love it.
2. Food is shit cheap, awesome, but super duper oily. In other words, Desmond Heaven. There's this stall off the corner of my street that sells sticks chargrilled lamb and lard. The boys in my group polish it off in multiples.
3. Shopping has been meh so far. China fash is either extremely cheap and tacky, or pretty and overpriced. Pretty lane of Hajilane-esque shops selling pretty things in pretty white houses though. Kelly you will love!
4. I thought, and have confirmed, that I love the mad bustle of a city. Shanghai is a mad beautiful blend of eclectic buildings and crazy lights. The juxtaposition of the traditional street stalls and the tall, sophisticated skyscrapers (which, unlike in Singapore, do have individually unique designs. There is one that looks like a pencil box.)
5. So random, but this trip is oddly affiliated in so many ways to The Great Gatsby. On the night I was sightseeing at the Bund (it would be best to describe it as similar to the Fullerton One stretch, although that would be doing it a gross injustice), I was looking across the river, and I saw a green light at the other side. If that wasn't enough, at that moment there was a small boat that sailed across, one of those river dining boats which was dimly lit by chandeliers and stuff inside. Doesn't help that my literary companion for the trip is Norwegian Wood, where Murakami makes 500000 references to Fitzgerald and Gatzby. Also, who can forget that it is because I'm here that I wasn't with Desmond for Gatz, damnit.
That my friends is Shanghai for now. The CIP trip has officially ended, and I am now just chilling around with my friends - at the moment we are in Hangzhou, having decided to take a short trip down to bum around at 西湖. IMO the Expo deserves a whole post on it's own and since I'm going back on Friday for a second visit (wishful thinking that I could complete it in a day, hurhur), I guess that'll have to wait.
