Skins

i dunno if you guys have heard about this show, Skins. recently its been making the news cos apparently parents in america were complaining that the US version (shown on MTV) was "child porn". However, i went to look it up, and its actually a UK show, which MTV remade. and obviously we all know how this turns out. americans idiots take a brilliant cult show and turn it into a moronic obnoxious american teen soap opera. so i did the right thing and went to watch the UK show.

so, Skins. well, it blew me away. The storylines are simple and believable. The characters are believable and imaginably real. and more than anything else, the acting. omg the acting. its so raw and honest. i've just finished season 2, and its amazing. well granted season 2 was a bit more drama-ey, but the scripting is still brilliant. but season 1 is really something. you really feel for the characters. and it speaks a lot about well, youths, really. and of course, its british humour, not the american rubbish. this reminds me of the OC, but more down to earth, more truthful and honest. i think we can all find stuff to relate to in this show.

so yes, go watch it. NOW. everything's available on youtube.

edit: ok, so i just finished 4 episodes of season 3, and it has become decidedly american. sigh. so disappointed. but i have however found new eye candy. lol.

edit edit: ok yeah, halfway into episode 5, the show has really become shit. sigh. lost all the subtlety, the subtext, the wit, the humour, the emotion, everything. what the fuck. just watch the first 2 seasons, ya.

edit edit edit: ok finished watching season 4. i must say, huge improvement from season 3. never reaches the heights of seasons 1 & 2, but still enough emotional torpedoes and plot twists to be worth watching. now we wait for season 5 and the movie. yeah.

  1. Yeah I saw the ads on MTV over here and was like oh! They're showing Skins in America?? Until I realised it was their own crappy American version, duh. And I've never seen Skins but I remember hearing so much about it years ago and then... nothing after that, so I figured that it had kind of gone downhill. And I guess I was right.
Also I've never felt enough liking for either Dev Patel or Nicholas Hoult (the only names that are familiar to me) to start watching.
