I did nothing of any use today and now I'm going to be talking about it:
a) Met an (old) dude in Italian class this morning who is studying because he's a men's fashion photographer and needs to learn the language so he can direct the models in Italy. Coooooool.
b) Donated blood for the first time. Doctor expressed surprise when we converted my weight into pounds. Apparently the number seemed big? Pounds are always scary anyway, there's too many digits, for starters, so it didn't seem too unreasonable to me, but he was all looking me up and down like, really? "Well, my tits and arse aren't made of air, yknow," I wanted to say, but thought better of antagonizing someone who was about to draw huge masses of blood from my arm. Then everyone showered me with cookies and apple juice and free umbrellas and movie tickets as my reward for being a donor, so that was nice.
c) Pored through many Missed Connection ads, which I have fallen in love with. Just the right recipe of poignancy and patheticness and open vulnerability. Found this brilliant blog where this woman illustrates the best of the lot. So great and about as romantic as the internet can get.

I am a man looking for a woman (m4w)
From Monday 04 January 2010 1:36 PM to Monday 04 January 2010 1:45 PM
After kissing the "ex" good bye in the parking lot, you rolled up to my car and you basically told me that you knew my heart wasn't in that kiss.
You were so right! Let's talk."
d)Watched Jeffrey Sebelia at Resident Runway. He told us, in his usual swaggering way, about Heidi Klum's pink Barbie bathroom, the impossibility of making leather pants for Seal's massive thighs, and a shocking secret about Tim Gunn that frankly nobody understood. Also he dissed everyone else on his season and mentioned a model from the show whom he would run over if he got the chance. Nice guy!
d) Developed a kind of disgusting crush on Stephen Merchant, co-creator of The Office and Extras. OK well I guess the affection was always kind of latent, seeing that those are my 2 favourite comedies of all time, but I just feel like finally people could stop worshipping Ricky Gervais, god bless him, and give more credit to Smerch, who I like to think of as the brains of the whole operation, in a way. I feel like Ricky gets so much more adulation simply by being louder, slightly more obnoxious and self-promoting, and also the fact that Stephen Merchant makes Ricky look like Tom Cruise, but I've really always prefered Stephen despite his absurd ugliness. I listened to a lot of the Ricky Gervais show on youtube and it just really confirmed my belief that Stephen Merchant speaks more to me in terms of style and sense of humour and demeanor and whatnot. More witty and deadpan, as opposed to Ricky who has been starting to irk recently with his aptitude for hugely high-pitched screamy-laughter with his mouth wide open like a frog. But still damned annoyed that I'll probably have to miss him hosting the Golden Globes on Sunday.
And, that Karl Pilkington - what a hoot. Especially his theories on Chinese people.
Some choice Missed Connections:
I LOVE SMERCH! definitely find him more amusing than Gervais. he is GOLD in Extras.
